The Martyrdoms of Saints Philip and Stephen
Circa 1050-1150
Fresco
Church of St. Rupert, Weisspriach/Lungau, Austria
Following one of the legends, the artist pictures Philip tied to the cross with crosswise cords. On the right, in what is left of the fresco we see a man stoning Stephen while the latter raises his eyes to the vision of Christ in the heavens. Between the two is what appears to be a very large book.
